- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Carleton College
- Master’s degree (MBA, quantitative methods), Harvard University
- Adjunct/part-time college instructor in mathematics, DePaul University
- Numerous success-story students and happy parents — references are available on request.
- I gladly confess to being from the “old school” in my philosophy and approach. I stress the fundamentals of math. My students are taught logical and analytical problem-solving skills — not just blind memorization.
“I just don’t do well in tests.” I don’t buy it. That is usually just an excuse for not being prepared. My students gain the understanding and preparation in their math so that they have the self-confidence that they can do it. “I’m doing OK. I’m getting a C.” I don’t buy that either. With that kind of attitude, a C is about the best that will be achieved. But with proper help and a positive attitude, most students can get at least a B in math. And after they are at that level, I encourage my students to set their sights on an A.
- I also work on proper grammar and vocabulary in the course of my tutoring sessions. I am troubled by the poor grammar and limited vocabulary I often encounter with students. (I told you I was old school.) It is disturbing that most teachers do nothing about it! It will not improve if nobody corrects and elevates the student. I do.
“I did good on my last test.” WRONG! One should say “I did well.” Work with me as your tutor and you will … get good scores and do well.
